Organize and Go From Overwhelm to Calm!
~ using essential oils to stay focused on the task at hand
It feels so much better being organized...
Organization differs for every person - that's what I've found anyway. You can be really extreme, like Martin, Julia Roberts character's husband in Sleeping With The Enemy, or you can be quite casual about it, like me. :)
It doesn't matter, as long as it's right and works for you...
I admit, I still work on this part of my life - getting organized - in my own way - and staying that way. It takes work and time just like a lot of other things but it's worth it. When I open a closet and see it all neat, clean and simple (better Feng Shui as they say), it brings a whole set of different feelings for me then when I open up that same closet and see things thrown everywhere with no rhyme or reason to it. I just shut it and say, 'I'll get to it another day.' Sound familiar?
My Plan of Action...
Here's what I've found works for me and I hope you can grab a tip or two that may work for you.
- First of all, realize if you never get organized, it's not the worst thing in the world - things can be a lot worse than that.
- Once you realize number 1 above, it makes the task of organizing seem that much more doable. :)
- Pick a day/date in the future where you can spend an hour, 15 minutes, 30 minutes or 2 hours, (I've found that I can get a lot done even in 15-20 minutes - another big realization that I don't need to spend a whole 8 hour day organizing!)
- Write that day/date in your planner, or type it in your iPhone or whatever gadget you use to remember things (another great hint: write things down somewhere so you don't forget it and so you make time for it - I use my iPhone calendar and it's been keeping me more on track).
- Pick one thing that you will organize - ie. your desk top, a closet, your planner, one drawer - whatever it is you feel is top priority for you and write that in your planner too!
On the Actual Organizing Day...
- Wake up, work out or go for a walk, eat a healthy breakfast and get ready to knock out your organizing task.
- Blast your favorite music.
- Use Aromatherapy (ahh, you thought I'd forgot, huh :). Diffuse any of these essential oils or combo of them in the room where you'll be organizing. These all help you to stay focused, inspired and concentrated on the task at hand. Of course be sure to follow the directions that came with your diffuser.
- Rosemary, Lemon, Peppermint, Spearmint, Sweet orange, Grapefruit, Lime, Bergamot, Ginger, Palmarosa, Eucalyptus and Cinnamon (mmm...I can smell them already!)
4.
Then Just Do It!
Ahh The Feeling...
When you're done, look at what you've accomplished and become aware of how you feel. I bet you will feel pretty darn good. It doesn't matter how much you accomplish, it's just taking the action to get something accomplished that counts. Once you start, you'll see how inspired you will become to keep going! And of course you get the added benefit of inhaling some great essential oils that also help you go from a state of overwhelm to one of more calm.
Enjoy!
*Important Note: Before using any essential oils, check with your medical practitioner if you have any health concerns or conditions or if you are pregnant or nursing.
